Covid-19 has changed our lives drastically. The entire world is in disarray and dealing with the crisis. Lifestyle is no longer the same for any of us. Normal has become abnormal and abnormal has become normal. From working to interacting with buying to living, each of them is affected. It’s like jumping into a completely new era of us being humans.

Anyways, I am sure you and I both know that what’s happening in the world today, so I don’t want to speak about it anymore. Rather I want to talk to you about something constructive, something interesting happening in the education world. A kind of thing which is trending these days for our children’s future. A concept and a curriculum that may be of huge advantage for our kids, present, or future. 

Online coding classes/courses for kids are hot these days. Even I got my 9 year old enrolled in one of these classes motivated to thinking that it might be a really good investment on my kid. There is a spree of massive advertisement campaigns everywhere on social media. They are just everywhere and connecting to almost every parent who socially very active in social media platforms. Whether it is a money-making innovative business concept or is it really worth investing in, is a debate for another day.

Initially, when this whole campaign started, I used to just ignore these ads. But, soon it grew upon me to dig more information. Couldn’t help seeing those well-crafted, cleverly done repeated ads. But, to be honest, as I started digging more information on these online coding courses for kids aged as low as 6, I was impressed. It actually made some sense after learning and getting information about these courses. I realized its worth the investment and why not? After all, how the world is shaping up for the future, it's all gonna be about space technology, AI, Machine Learning, and Data Science. Information Technology is going to be the most dominant thing revolving around everybody’s lives. I know I may sound a little excited but look around you. You are becoming more and more dependent on Technology!

So why not prepare your kid for the future right away? Especially, when we know by the time they grow up the competition is going to be beyond our imagination. Specific expertise and skillsets will be highly respected and updating oneself will be the name of the game.

So finally, I made a decision. But, I had to decide on three basic criteria. One is the reputation of the course provider and the other is the value of the course itself. The third being the price. Of course, the most important deciding factor, especially during these uncertain times where keeping your finances under check is as crucial. I know.

The first two criteria I just had to dig information on the net, as well as thoroughly interrogated over the phone when the representatives called me from different institutes to take buy a subscription from any one of their course packages for my son. Once I was satisfied with the answers from one of the representatives of such a company, I moved forward with the final question. How much? The fees?

So after arriving here, I had to make a choice now. Take it or leave it depending upon the price. The packages which were offered varied a great deal between one and another. As I remember well, the lowest price of the package which was offered was somewhere around 6000 INR, but I felt it was just too basic for my son and will be a waste of money even though less. Its more of an exposure to the computer, its basic operation, and maybe a little few things about coding. By the way, when I asked my son what is coding, he kind of gave me the exact definition of it. Don’t know how these kids of today’s generation are loaded with so much information? (One of the reasons why I enrolled my son into the coding class, it’s a secret I must share too).

Anyways, back to the pricing. So the second package which was offered was around 35-40000 INR. Now this package is definitely interesting as it’s a real value-based pack, one that can enable a child to learn so much about coding that s/he can actually create an application of high quality and deploy it on platforms like google play store, besides a certification on completion of the course. At least, that’s what the course tells you about.

The third package takes a child even further to the level of Machine Learning and AI. Wow! But, sadly the price the guy quoted was pretty steep for my wallet. Besides, I was unsure to invest such kind of money on my son without knowing fully his knack, interest, and persistence towards it. So I let go on the first and the third package.

But, even investing between 35-40000k for a course is something I still had to think a day or two before I could give an answer to a sales rep. In between, what I did was I frankly told the rep that the price is high for me to take the risk for such an investment and that I am looking for a good discount from him to be persuaded well enough, although I was not hoping much for it. However, to my surprise, I was offered a satisfying discount plus an installment scheme to pay the course fees in 6 months without any incurring interest.

So without wasting much time I finalized the deal at a discounted price and paid 28000 INR divided into 6 monthly installments and chose the intermediate course (the second pack). The discount boosted me to take the decision and invest in hope that my kid can learn something of great value and knowledge.

During my research on these coding classes, I dug up a lot of information which I think I should share with you. It may help you if you are seriously considering one such course for your child. However, I will not share which institute I finally chose as you may think I may be a salesman pushing their product with a story to sell. So I am not getting into that. Also, everyone has their own criteria and methods of decision making. But, what I can conclude, before going further to share some of the information I gathered on this, is to definitely recommend you invest in your kids for such courses.
